============================================ PrehKeyTec OCR Keyboard Wedge 2.1a ============================================ If you are using notepad you will need to activate "word wrap" to display the text properly 0. System Requirements ============================================ * Operating systems supported: Windows XP, Vista, Windows7 * OCR (Passport) Reader Module (Product Code "P1") for example inside our products "MCI 111" and "ML 2" * RTE Virtual COM Port Drivers 3.04.17 (WHQL) included in package (=FTDI 2.04.16) 1. Installation ============================================ It is strongly recommended that you exit all Windows programs before running this Setup program. Furthermore you should have Administrator rights for a proper installation. You must have administrator privileges for a proper installation. To install, just follow the installation wizard. 2. Usage ============================================ The OCRWedge application runs in background and translates the COM port data into keystrokes. Running wedge application is indicated by a icon in the Windows' systray area. The data can be formatted as described in chapter 3 below. By default, the setup generates an entry to automatically run the OCRWedge application on Windows startup: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run: "C:\Program Files\Preh\OCRWedge\OCRWedge.exe" Alternatively you can start the OCRWedge application manually using the Windows' Start menu. 3. Configuration - OCRWedge.ini ============================================ The OCRWedge application is configured in the file OCRWedge.ini. To modify, just edit this file using Windows' Notepad. To activate the modifications, restart the OCRWedge application. 3.1 COM Port -------------------------------------------- When using "Port = 0" the OCRWedge automatically searches for virtual COM port (requires FTDI driver version 2.04.16 or newer). For manual configuration, please review the Windows' device manager for for the port number. The entry "RTE USB Serial port" is listed in section "Ports". By default, the OCR hardware is configured to these RS232 parameters: 19200-7-E-1 (regarding "Parity" please use these values: 0=None, 1=Odd, 2=Even) 3.2 Formatting the OCR Data output -------------------------------------------- The OCR module by default returns the complete content of two or three track OCR documents. Using the OCRWedge application the data can be formatted this way:
, , and are configurable: * Normal Text is entered inside double quotes ("") * ASCII characters using their Hex value(s) 0xNN 0xNN 0xNN... (without double quotes!) TracksToRead Using "TracksToRead" you can configure which tracks should be output. The value is calculated as addition of the binary values: Track1=1 Track2=2 Track3=4 Default: 7 (read all tracks) 3.3 Sample OCRWedge.ini -------------------------------------------- ; OCRWege 2.x configuration file. ; Adapt COM Port number below. ; Port = 0: Automatically search for "RTE USB Serial port" (Requires driver version 2.04.16 or newer) ; Default RS232 Hardware Parameters: 19200-7E1 ; Use this parity notation: 0=None, 1=Odd, 2=Even [COM Port Settings] Port = 0 Baudrate = 19200 Parity = 2 Databit = 7 [OCR Settings] Header = "" Seperator1 = "|" Seperator2 = "|" Terminator = 0x0D TracksToRead= 7 3.4 Data Editing (new - in OCRWedge V2.1) -------------------------------------------- Über die optionalen Abschnitte [Data Editing A/B] können auch nur einzelne Teile der OCR-Daten ausgegeben werden. Example: 1:1-5 -> Characters 1..5 on track1 Example: [Data Editing A] Define = 1:1-2:"ID" Formula1 = 2:29 Formula2 = 2:14-19 Formula3 = 2:30-35 [Data Editing B] Define = 1:1:"P" Formula1 = 2:29 Formula2 = 2:14-19 Formula3 = 2:36-41 Please note: If the OCR data do not match any of the two "Define" values, no data will be output (only Header/Terminator). 4. Uninstall ============================================ 4.1 Uninstall Application -------------------------------------------- Uninstall the Application using Windows Control Panel -> Add/Remove Applications. 4.2 Uninstall Virtual COM Port Drivers -------------------------------------------- If want to remove also the virtual Com port drivers from your system: Execute the script "Remove_Driver.cmd" before(!) Uninstalling the Application itself. For details, please refer to the driver's Readme_OCR_P1.txt. 5. Troubleshooting ============================================ 5.1 Message: "Error open COM port" -------------------------------------------- => Is the device connected to usb? => Use device manager to check if all drivers are installed correctly. => Check the COM port number in the ini file. => Auto port detection (Port = 0) requires driver version 2.04.16 or newer. For older drivers enter the number manually. 5.2 No Data output after OCR Swipe -------------------------------------------- => Check the INI settings in segment [COM Port Settings]. => Remove option DataEditing, or verify correctness of "Define" settings. => Did you swipe with OCR lines facing towards the read head (bottom, facing towards the user)? => Is the OCR document invalid or dirty? Check with a standard Passport. => Use different USB port which deliveres enough power (Voltage specified: 4.75 .. 5.25V, e.g. use self-powered hub). 5.3 Data are output in incorrect format -------------------------------------------- => Regarding formatting check the header/terminator/separator settings, chapter [OCR Settings] of the INI file. => In case of erranous characters/special characters, check RS232 parameters in chapter [COM Port Settings] of OCRWedge.ini. 5.4 No output after disconnecting OCR -------------------------------------------- => OCRWedge.exe does not monitor hotplug events for the virtual COM port. => Please restart the OCRWedge application after reconnecting the hardware. 6. Unattended installation ============================================ For detailled informations please refer to the file "Auto_install.txt". Special switches for the package OCRWedge: * Option: EVERYONE EVERYONE=A Start menu entries for "All Users" (Admin Rights necessary) EVERYONE=B Start menu entries only for current user's personal start menu (default) * Option: FTDIDRV FTDIDRV=A - Preinstall RTE Virtual COM Port Driver (default) FTDIDRV=B - Don't preinstall Driver * Option: OCR_AUTO OCR_AUTO=A - AutoStart via Registry "Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" (default) OCR_AUTO=B - Only start menu entries. 7.
